Religious Education

Religion 2St. Bernard's School is in the Diocese of Sandhurst (Bendigo) and uses the diocesan Foundation to Year 12 Religious Education program 'Source of Life'.

It is centered on the person and mission of Jesus Christ and is guided by the following principles:

- Religious Education invites us to meet, experience and develop a relationship with a loving God in the journey of life.

- Religious Education is sharing and experiencing Scripture in order to develop a relationship with Jesus, which will be evident in our everyday lives.

- Religious Education links the Catholic story to our personal story, connecting life and faith, faith and culture.

- Religious Education urges us to reflect upon and celebrate our beliefs within a Spirit-filled Community.

- Religious Education seeks to nurture and develop an understanding, sensitivity and acceptance of difference so that we live peacefully and justly.

- Religious Education calls us to respect God's creation and responsibly exercise our creative spirit. (Source of Life)

Sacraments

For children whose parents wish them to receive the Sacraments of Initiation - our school follows the diocesan Sacramental Policy for the sequence of their reception: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist, with the sacrament of Reconciliation preceding Eucharist.

The preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation, is a partnership between families, the three local Catholic primary schools and the parish. The parish organises the programs and through its bulletin and our school newsletter, parents are informed when the different programs will begin.

Students in Grade Three usually prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation within their family groups and in the Religious Education studies at school. When these students are in Grade Four, they continue their sacramental journey by preparing for the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.
