St. Bernard's enjoys a unique generational school community.  Our loyal parents, many of whom were students themselves, have chosen to return to St. Bernard's to entrust us with the responsibility for educating their own children. Our grandparents were once parents and our parents were once the students, which creates an intimate and trusting relationship. Our parents are active, generous and enthusiastic, many choosing to be involved in our Fundraising Steering Committe or by joining a parent sub group to organise a specific fundraising event during the year.

The role of the Fundraising Steering Committe is to gather ideas from the parent community for fundraising events, and then enlist the support of sub groups to organise these events.

Being part of the St. Bernard's sub groups is about meeting new people, catching up with friends and raising funds for equipment and resources for our students. Throughout the year, we have social / fundraising events for families and some specifically for parents.  Events and activities include the St. Bernard's Art and Photography Show, Trivia Night, Mothers and Fathers Day Raffles, Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, Hot Dog Days and Kid's Fun Days.

Information on ways that parents and friends can be involved in life in our school community is provided in our school newsletter, website or via our school app.  This includes sporting activities, liturgies, picnics on the oval and our Christmas Concert.

In Term Two, the annual Art and Photography Show is held with members of the public invited to display their paintings or photographs for sale. Members of our school community are invited to join the Art Show Sub Group to organise this event. Everyone from the Wangaratta community and beyond is welcome to attend the opening night, where the winners of various categories are announced, and mingle with the crowd, whilst being served canapes and beverages. The Art and Photography Show is open all weekend, for the public to enjoy!

Parents are invited to assist classes and work with small groups of children in reading, writing, cooking, maths and art / craft.

Parents will also be invited to assist in local/regional educational day excursions and overnight excursions/camps. The Foundation, Grade 1/2 and Grade 3/4 classes need parental support on day excursions.  The senior classes have an overnight excursion, which alternates each year from an outdoor education excursion to the historical excursion to Bendigo and Ballarat.  Parent support is welcome on these camps!

***Please note that it is mandated that parent helpers who take part in any type of excursion or assist in the classroom, must have a current WORKING WITH CHILDREN'S CERTIFICATE.   To obtain a Working with Children Check, parents need to go online to:

When parents receive the WWCC information, they need to bring it to the office, where a copy will be retained and kept on file.
